The Diary of a Nobody – Sparrow gets a look at the plans for the new VSO. Today’s Diary.

The new VSO is going to be on the first floor, where Public Health is, and I am pleased to report it looks like it is going to be significantly bigger than the former closet I’m in now because the plans show not only a desk and chair, but also two chairs and a table, tho it’s unclear if my printer and scanner will be in the office or whether I’ll have to trudge down the hall as I do now.

History’s long march.

In 1910 – Construction on the world’s tallest dam – the Buffalo Bill Dam on the Shoshone River in northwest Wyoming ends after five years. At the time 325 feet tall, the dam was named after Buffalo Bill Cody, who founded a nearby town named after him and owned much of the land now covered by the reservoir. The dam is 70 feet wide at the base, 200 feet wide at the top and 25 feet was added to its height in the 1980s. The tallest dam in the world now is the Nurek Dam in Tajikistan at 984 feet.

In 1967 – The Green Bay Packers (NFL) defeat the Kansas City Chiefs (AFL) 35-10 in Super Bowl I at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. It was the first of four Super Bowl wins for the Packers and remains the only Super Bowl aired by two networks (NBC, CBS). It was the first of two Super Bowls at the Coliseum before the Rose Bowl hosted five. Super Bowl 56 will be played at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on February 13. The AFL’s first season was in 1960 and it would merge with the NFL before the 1970 season.

In 1983 – Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney are at #1 on Billboard’s soul chart – then known as the Hot Black Singles chart – for the first of three consecutive weeks with The Girls Is Mine. It was the third of 13 #1 soul hits for Jackson and was the first of two soul #1s for McCartney. The song also went to #1 in Spain, peaked at #8 in Great Britain and was in its second of three consecutive weeks at #2 on the Hot 100. The song was written by Jackson and produced by Jackson and Quincy Jones.
