Extra, extra, read all about it.

In 1963 – Zip codes are introduced by the US Postal Service. Zip is short for Zone Improvement Plan and currently, there are over 41,000 zip codes in the US. The highest zip code is 99950 in Ketchikan, Alaska and the lowest is 00501, for the IRS in Holtsville, New York. Seven zip codes cross state lines and the US Postal Service handles 44% of the world’s mail.

In 1980 – Steve Ovett of Great Britain establishes a new world record in the one-mile run at a meet in Oslo, Noway. Ovett ran the mile in 3 minutes, 48.8 seconds, to beat Sebastian Coe’s record of 3 minutes 49 seconds. Later that summer, Ovett would win the gold medal at the Moscow Olympics in the 800 meters and bronze in the 1,500 meters. The mile remains the only non-metric distance recognized for record purposes.

In 1967 – The Association is at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 for the first of four consecutive weeks with Windy. It was the fourth of seven Top 40 hits for the group, their third of four Top 10 hits, and their second and final #1 song. The song also went to #1 in Canada, was Billboard’s 4th-biggest song of the year, and later in the year, an instrumental version by Wes Montgomery peaked at #44 on the Hot 100.

Some Philosophy Crap
The wisdom of the ages. Whatever.

One who takes for granted the basest motives in one’s fellow men and in oneself…has never gone wrong, not in our time – and it is in our time that one must live, must prosper or perish.
