The Sunday Bottom 5
Notes from around the human experience…

1. President Donald Trump: Lying, sexual predator who believes moon is part of Mars, President Trump well on his way to impeachment by House…Sunday Bottom 5 pollsters “pretty sure” palace coup unlike in Senate trial, but one never knows.

2. New York KnicksBiggest hot mess in American sports, Knicks fan(s) looking into petitioning US House to open impeachment proceedings against current management.

3. San Diego Padres Look, those brown and yellow uniforms were ugly the first time you wore them, and they are still the ugliest uniforms in pro sports by a team not named the Cincinnati Bengals.

4. Carl’s Junior In Idaho Springs, ColoradoWe don’t get there much, but it is comforting to know our order is still screwed up per what appears to be company policy…Also, many thanks for squishing our burgers…Starting off with them half their original size is good for morale.

5. College Football PlayoffDream/nightmare scenario we were all hoping for didn’t really pan out, as four teams pretty easy to pick this year…Sunday Bottom 5 pollsters, however, still stubbornly pointing out NCAA Division I Playoff could have started Thanksgiving weekend, finished up the second round this weekend, and still finish on January 1.

The Diary of a Nobody: Sparrow and The Wife enjoy a day trip. Today’s Diary.

You might be tempted to think we enjoyed lunch in town, but by the time lunch rolled around every place was either too crowded or did not really interest us, so we ended up heading down the highway 15 minutes or so to a fast-food chain The Wife really likes and that ol’ Sparrow enjoys, too…This place never fails to disappoint…As usual, my order was screwed up…I’d ordered a double burger and got a single and, as it turned out, the extra patty was put on The Wife’s burger…I took mine back and, per protocol there, all the burgers were crushed, but we declined to whine about this.

It’s Sparrow, an average man passing an average life.

In 1941 – The United States declares war on Japan, one day after the Japanese Navy had bombed Pearl Harbor. Both the US Senate and House passed the declaration after President Franklin Delano Roosevelt had given his Day of Infamy speech requesting such a declaration. The state of war would last until August 15, 1945, when Japan formally surrendered to the United States.

In 1987 – Ron Hextall of the Philadelphia Flyers becomes the first goaltender in NHL history to score a goal in a 5-2 win over the Boston Bruins. The goal came when Hextall shot the puck into the net with 1:12 remaining in the game and the Bruins having just pulled their goalie. Hextall would repeat the feat in a 1989 playoff game and five other NHL goalies have scored a goal via a shot on goal. Seven other goalies have been credited with a goal after they were the last ones to touch the puck before the other team shot the puck into their own net.

In 1973 – The Carpenters are at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the second and final consecutive week with Top of the World. It was the tenth of twelve Top 10 hits for the duo and their second of three #1s. The song also went to #1 in Canada and Australia and made the Top 5 in Great Britain. The Carpenters had not intended to release the song as a single, however, they changed their mind after a version by Lynn Anderson had peaked at #2 on Billboard’s country chart.

Quotebook
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. – Henry David Thoreau, Walden

Answer To The Last Trivia Question
The Elegants were the first act whose only hit on Billboard’s Hot 100 went to #1. Little Star – the third #1 song on the Hot 100 – spent one week at the top in 1958.
