The Diary of a Nobody: Sparrow has some early morning customers at the hotel’s sundry stand.

His buddy was hungry and asked if anything was open…I said certainly not, everything closes at 2pm here in the offseason – more so during the Virus Era – and it got a pretty good laff…I then told him the only option at this time was the convenience store across town – about a seven-minute drive this time of night – and then it was my sad duty to inform him the sundry stand was out of Hot Pockets…He thought about it for a few seconds before going to the sundry stand and coming back with some locally made granola, non-GMO potato chips and an Oreo Klondike bar, not too bad under the circumstances.

The Bottom Ten/NCAA Week 12: The race for the ESPNCup – symbolic of Bottom Ten collegiate supremacy – rolls on, with Akron, Vanderbilt and New Mexico occupying the Bottom Ten medal stand.

Editor’s Note: The Bottom Ten is free this season.

2. Vanderbilt (0-6; lost to Kentucky 38-35)
Mitigating Factors: Commodore fan(s) nervously sweat this one out as curious, late comeback almost derails B-10 medal stand hopes…Commodores still reeling from turn-of-century decision to merge Athletic, Student Affairs departments as Humanities majors – thinking they were doing extra-credit charity work – secure loss by failing to execute late-game onsides kick.
FunFact: Team staffers happy to announce parents can attend final two (2) home games, but were dismayed to find out none of them wanted to come.
Next Loss: Florida

The long march to today.

In 1800 – The United States Congress holds its first session in Washington, D.C.. Previously, Congress had met in Philadelphia for ten years, while the new capital was being built and before that had met in New York City. Only the Senate’s side of the capitol was completed at the time, a site they shared with the House until a temporary pavilion was erected and used until the House’s wing opened in 1811. The Congress had previously met in Philadelphia in May.

In 1973 – Bobby Orr of the Boston Bruins establishes a new NHL record for most career assists by a defenseman in an 8-0 win over the Detroit Red Wings. Orr had four assists, giving him 456 for his career to break the mark of 452 established by Doug Harvey between 1947-69. Orr would retire in 1978 with 645 assists, a mark now good for 13th on the all-time list for defensemen. The record is now 1,169 assists, by Ray Borque 1979-2001.

In 1958 – The Kingston Trio is at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 for the only week with Tom Dooley. It was the first of ten Top 40 hits for the group and remains their only #1 song. Due to when it charted, it was only the 28th biggest song of the year, but was Billboard’s seventh biggest of the decade and ranked 198th on Billboard’s 60th Anniversary Hot 100 in 2018. The song went to #1 in four other countries, including Norway, and peaked at #5 in Great Britain and at #9 on Billboard’s soul chart. The song earned the Kingston Trio the Grammy Award for Best Country and Western Performance despite not having appeared on the country chart.

More likely he had died as he had lived – without ever learning who he really was.
