The Diary of a Nobody/November 10

Meet Sparrow, an average man passing an average life…

Tuesday, November 10
And the creamer is in!!!

A new shipment was there when I reported for duty: two boxes each of half and half, hazelnut and French Vanilla…Ol’ Sparrow had to restock the rack with French vanilla because that is what we were out of, but we can again offer three creamers for Morning Coffee Service (MCS), which is good for morale.

(Putting the creamers in the rack was a hassle, tho, because yours truly can never seem to get them to line up properly…I can get three creamers on the first couple of rows, but by the time we get to the final row, everything is so unaligned only two will fit.)

The coffee maker’s fixed, too, a day early to boot…Amy, tho, wasn’t entirely sure:

I think (Front Desk Manager) Brandon said it was fixed, but I’m not certain.”

Fabulous…The only way to find out for sure is to give it a field test and, if it’s not fixed, then clean up the ensuing mess but the light was on, meaning it had been turned on and, presumable, tested, so I made a pot of hot water and it worked fine.

The big news, tho, is ol’ Sparrow wore both his new boot covers and his new red and black checked socks to work tonight…I am not making that up…The boot covers, with their cleats and all, were a bit loud walking on the wood floor in the lobby, but the traction is noticeably better than the old ones and the socks look good, too.

Yours truly returned home from the hotel and was set for a great Tuesday…I issued the cat her canned yummy ration and started some laundry, took a shot of Zzz-Sleep and was in the chair doing some reading and was looking forward to a good day’s rest and workout and a walk and project work after getting up but that didn’t happen.

I was actually starting to dose off in my chair when I heard a gurgling sound that instinct immediately declared “bad”…I get up and check the washer – which is in the kitchen – but that was OK and then I went and checked the can and there was the problem: the toilet starting to overflow and the shower drain was backed up.

Crap and double crap…Recall I had put some Brand A liquid stuff down the drain yesterday, which did some zero good despite label claims that it would clear your clog up…Instead, it did the opposite.: it made the clog worse, which is not what I paid for…Evidently the Brand A label should have read “Will Further Clog Your Drain!” instead of “Great On Clogs!”

So I dive in with the plunger, which shows some results, and after 90 minutes or so both the shower and the toilet get back to normal…Sort of…They’re back to normal levels but the drain is still clogged…So I go to the store here in our small town and get a different brand of drain unclogger, follow the directions and BOOM it actually worked…I am not making that up…The shower is draining normally and the toilet is flushing HOWEVER the toilet now is not filling up all the way, something else I don’t understand at all.

There are a couple of options here…I could get someone to come look at it or I could get a new toilet…Since the day The Ex and I bought The Shire this toilet has annoyed me…One, it’s gray, which is a lousy color for the throne, especially in a log cabin and, two, it has never really worked right…You have to hold the handle down while flushing and it doesn’t always pop back up, something else to watch out for…I did some pricing and a quality new one is less than I thought, tho living out here in the mountains one cannot entirely dismiss the possibility it might have to be shipped in.

Sparrow’s Sleep Log: 1430 Tuesday until 2030 Tuesday…6.0 hours for the week and 19.0 hours for the day, not too bad considering the morning toilet imbroglio (MTI).

I slept right thru workout and, perhaps, a walk and you can forget about a proper morning routine, but otherwise it was a pretty good rest

The Diary of a Nobody is a novel. All elements are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Anything else is a coincidence.

It was inspired by the 19th-century British novel of the same name.
