The Diary of a Nobody – Sparrow’s eating in truck stop diners again. Today’s Diary. 

Let me tell you something, this tactic of putting the calories on the menu next to items is really bad for morale because some of the big entrees (eggs, bacon, sausage, hotcakes, a biscuit with gravy) have upwards of 2,000 calories, which is a full day’s worth, even for a growing boy like ol’ Sparrow…It prevented me from getting it, tho…I hardly had the diet plate, but the chicken fried steak and eggs let me leave the joint with some measure of dignity.

The Diary of a Nobody – Sparrow starts his road trip. Today’s Diary. 

It was so bad on the downside of the pass I put the new ride into low gear because you want to brake as little as possible in these situations and then I thought this might be a bit much but then – with Movie of the Week timing – there was a car that had slid off to the side, so I stayed cautious…I was passed a couple of times of guys in large pick-up trucks compensating for small wangers, but that’s their lookout and not mine.

The Diary of a Nobody – Sparrow notes there’s an awful lot of sour cream in the back office refrigerator. Today’s Diary. 

For reasons I’m sure someone thinks good, there is a five-pound container of sour cream in the back office refrigerator….I don’t know why either…There’s not a PM Sour Cream Bar that needs to be stocked (or if there is, no one’s told me about it) and the restaurant certainly has sufficient chilled storage…Of course, it not uncommon for us zany employees to keep condiments in the back office refrigerator, but who the hell needs to keep five pounds of sour cream at work???

The Diary of a Nobody – Sparrow might have some big plans while he’d in Minnesota next week. Today’s Diary. 

Oh dear me, this actually sounded like fun…Spades was played a lot on the USS Blueback and ol’ Sparrow was a pretty good player…Besides, after I’ve bought some shoes, what the hell else is there to do in Red Wing, Minnesota???…That’s one of the reasons I’m going there, so I’m not burdened with too many leisure options…If I wanted those, I would’ve gone somewhere else.

The Diary of a Nobody – Sparrow gets a guest some towels. Today’s Diary. 

One way to get out of doing work is to appear willing to do it…At 0530 the bell rings and there’s a gent there requesting two towels and two washcloths…I point to the back office, noting we probably have them here and go back, haul town the towel basket and see that while there are plenty of towels and hand towels, there aren’t any washcloths…I take two towels out tell the gent this, adding it would be my pleasure to deliver two washcloths to his room.

Brilliant move…He takes the towels and – plainly thinking I’ve worked hard enuff tonight – shakes his head dismissively, saying there was no need, he’s grateful for the towels and they will be enuff.
