The Diary of a Nobody: Sparrow falls one room short of selling out at the hotel, and in what must be regarded as the Upset of the Year, The Wife’s estimate of how much snow is in the driveway actually turns out to be accurate. Today’s Diary.
I said of course and was actually surprised when her estimate turned out to be accurate: there was, more or less, six inches of snow in the driveway…Usually, The Wife can be counted on to inflate any figure or estimate by about a third…So I parked underneath the carport, ostensibly so I could use the snowblower on the entire driveway, but really so our neighbor Jerry would have free reign should he decide to move our snow for us.

Criminals, Courtesans, and Constables: We hope are as excited as we are about the impending release of my latest novel. It’s about a criminal who runs courtesans who runs afoul of the law, though it is for something he didn’t do. It’s funny and thoughtful, just like the crap you read here every day.

In 1981 – Guitar Man by Elvis Presley is at #1 on Billboard’s country chart – then known as the Hot Country Singles chart – for its only week. Guitar Man had originally been released in 1967 when Jerry Reed, who wrote the song, had a minor country hit and Elvis had a minor pop hit with it. It was Elvis’ eleventh #1 song on the country chart and Guitar Man also went to #28 on Billboard’s Hot 100. It was Elvis’ penultimate hit on the country chart and his final Hot 100 hit.

The Diary of a Nobody: At the hotel, one of the coffee pots is filled with poison, and Sparrow interviews for the county’s vacant veteran service officer postion. Today’s Diary.
The two women interviewing me were my age and I was funny and affable as if we were enjoying drinks at a singles bar…Most of the time I’ve interviewed for work it was because I needed the job, but not only do I not need this job, I didn’t particularly want it, recall I only applied because Stanko and Rick at the Legion thought I’d do well at it and, of course, our vets deserve top-notch service.

The Diary of a Nobody: Sparrow says goodbye to the British ski group, who leaves in the middle of the night, and he frets over the creamer offered at the coffee service. Today’s Diary.
I’ve begun fretting over the creamer that is in the rack…There are three types, of course, and they are stacked on top of each other, for two row and we tend to replace the top level as soon as it’s used because a full rack of creamer looks better than a half full rack…But do the bottom creamers ever get used???…

The Diary of a Nobody/March 10
Meet Sparrow, an average man passing an average life…
Sunday, March 10
The British ski club left at 0200…They started filtering in an hour before and certainly had their share of bloody requests, mainly plastic cutlery but also the usual hot water request – this one for a beverage container for some tea – and one lady even asked if we kept “scales back there”…I thought she might have been asking for something having to do with fish, but she was looking for something to weigh her luggage with, which we didn’t have either…Honestly, I don’t think even the Beverly Hills Hotel would have that but, thinking on my feet, I was able to offer the human scale in the weight room, which was appreciated, though declined because it would be too much work.
